The study was developed in author cooperation from the examination of the subject areas of classical folklore and intercultural competence or political education, which were each an entry point for the authors into comparative cultural theories, fields of work and fields of action. Increasingly, cultural studies approaches are of interest.Based on a seminar paper in folklore, an overview of ethnology is given. The interconnections of the subject area(s) are to be taken into account. Starting points of the authors' considerations are their education and further education.
