This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Second Australasian Conference on Information Security and Privacy, ACISP'97, held in Sydney, NSW, Australia, in July 1997.

Antisense technology may result in dramatic changes in the therapy of many diseases and may provide tools to dissect pharmacological processes and to confirm the roles of various genes. In this volume, progress in the understanding of antisense technology and its use in creating new drugs is discussed. Potential caveats, pitfalls and limitations of the technology are also presented. In the next few years the pace at which new molecular targets will be identified will increase exponentially as the sequencing of the human genome and of other genomes proceeds.

This volume deals with all the known aspects of somatostatin, one of the phylogenetically oldest hormones, which is a regulatory peptide with remarkable characteristics. It is a non-classical neurotransmitter discovered less than 20 years ago in both the central nervous system and in the gastroenteropancreatic system, regulating the secretion of both pituitary and digestive hormones. It also ensures nutrient homeostasis and has therapeutic uses.

This volume treats the analysis of 3D dynamic scenes using a stereovision system. Several approaches are described, for example two different methods of dealing with long and short sequences of images of an unknown environment, including an arbitrary number of rigid mobile objects. Results obtained from stereovision systems are found to be superior to those from monocular image systems, which are often very sensitive to noise and therefore of little use in practice.
