This two-volume work presents a systematic theoretical and computational study of several types of generalizations of separable matrices. The main attention is paid to fast algorithms (many of linear complexity) for matrices in semiseparable, quasiseparable, band and companion form. The work is focused on algorithms of multiplication, inversion and description of eigenstructure and includes a large number of illustrative examples throughout the different chapters.
The second volume, consisting of four parts, addresses the eigenvalue problem for matrices with quasiseparable structure...

This volume is dedicated to Leonid Lerer on the occasion of his seventieth birthday. The main part presents recent results in Lerer's research area of interest, which includes Toeplitz, Toeplitz plus Hankel, and Wiener-Hopf operators, Bezout equations, inertia type results, matrix polynomials, and related areas in operator and matrix theory. Biographical material and Lerer's list of publications complete the volume.

This volume contains solicited articles by speakers at the workshop ranging from expository surveys to original research papers, each of which carefully refereed. They all bear witness to the very rich mathematics that is connected with the study of elementary operators, may it be multivariable spectral theory, the invariant subspace problem or tensor products of C*-algebras.

This volume consists of eighteen peer-reviewed papers related to lectures on pseudo-differential operators presented at the meeting of the ISAAC Group in Pseudo-Differential Operators (IGPDO) held at Imperial College London on July 13-18, 2009. Featured in this volume are the analysis, applications and computations of pseudo-differential operators in mathematics, physics and signal analysis. This volume is a useful complement to the volumes "Advances in Pseudo-Differential Operators," "Pseudo-Differential Operators and Related Topics," "Modern Trends in Pseudo-Differential Operators," "New...

This book provides a systematic development of the Rubio de Francia theory of extrapolation, its many generalizations and its applications to one and two-weight norm inequalities. The book is based upon a new and elementary proof of the classical extrapolation theorem that fully develops the power of the Rubio de Francia iteration algorithm. This technique allows us to give a unified presentation of the theory and to give important generalizations to Banach function spaces and to two-weight inequalities. We provide many applications to the classical operators of harmonic analysis to illustrate...

COib.H BaCHJIbeBHa lU>BaJIeBcR8JI (Sonja Kovalevsky) was born in Moscow in 1850 and died in Stockholm in 1891. Between these years, in the then changing and turbulent circumstances for Europe, lies the all too brief life of this remarkable woman. This life was lived out within the great European centers of power and learning in Russia, France, Germany, Switzerland, England and Sweden. To this day, now 150 years after her birth, her influence for and contribution to mathe- matics, science, literature, women's rights and democratic government are recorded and reviewed, not only in Europe but...

This volume consists of eight papers containing recent advances in interpolation theory for matrix functions and completion theory for matrices and operators. In the first paper, D. Alpay and P. Loubaton, "The tangential trigonometric moment problem on an interval and related topics" a trigonometric moment problem on an interval for matrix valued functions is studied. The realization approach plays an important role in solving this problem. The second paper, M. Bakonyi, V.G. Kaftal, G. Weiss and H.J. Woerdeman, "Max- imum entropy and joint norm bounds for operator extensions" is dedicated to...

Since 1976 the Institute of Mathematics of the Romanian Academy (formerly the Department of Mathematics of INCREST) and the Faculty of Mathematics (formerly the Faculty of Sciences) of the University ofTimi oara have organized several Con- ferences on Operator Theory. These Conferences were held yearly in Timi oara (or in Timi oara and Herculane) and beginning with 1985 they were held in Bucharest (1985,1986), in Timi oara (1988) and in Predeal (1990). At the beginning, these Conferences answered the need of a part of the Romanian Mathematical Community ofexploring other forms of survival,...

Pseudo-differential operators belong to the most powerful tools in the analysis of partial differential equations. Basic achievements in the early sixties have initiated a completely new understanding of many old and important problems in analy sis and mathematical physics. The standard calculus of pseudo-differential and Fourier integral operators may today be considered as classical. The development has been continuous since the early days of the first essential applications to ellip ticity, index theory, parametrices and propagation of singularities for non-elliptic operators,...
