The latter will be drawn from both the philosophical literature, and recent empirical studies that challenge our conventional wisdom on food systems, such as the case of rice shipped from Bangladesh to San Francisco having a lower carbon footprint than rice grown via artificial irrigation in Northern California and trucked to San Francisco.
