The acute lethal toxicity of heavy metals, viz., lead and manganese in potable water is detoxified using Low cost KAZAs carbons which were prepared from bio-waste materials. Adsorption onto commercial activated carbon is still an expensive one. This problem is inundated with these indigenously prepared carbons. Activated carbons prepared from Pithacelobium dulce, Ipomoea batatas and Ipomoea batatas are used in manganese ion removal. Activated carbons prepared from Dolichos lablab, Brassica and Cajanus Cajan are used in lead ion removal. SEM, XRF, FT-IR and XPS studies are carried-out along with physico-chemical analysis. Along with adsorption kinetic studies the data also modeled with Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption isotherms. The experiments were successful in bringing the toxic manganese and lead ions in potable water to their normal level.
