The West Jersey Pioneer newspaper, published in Bridgeton, New Jersey, was one of the premier newspapers in Cumberland County. The "Pioneer," in its life under preceding titles, actually started on September 2, 1846 as the West Jersey Telegraph and General Advertiser. It published fifty-two issues from September 2, 1846 and ceased operations on August 25, 1847. It then became The West Jersey Telegraph and Cumberland and Cape May Advertiser.
