Marion Haines Duplantis' book, The Little Pumpkin, came to life in the classroom of the author's first grandson, Aaron Jon Shapcotte. Fay Bourgeois, Aaron's teacher at Acadian Elementary in Houma, Louisiana, asked Marion to visit the classroom to read to the students. Marion decided to tell a new story written just for Aaron's class. That's how the seed of The Little Pumpkin was planted.
