In sensorineural hearing loss due to poor frequency resolution, the high frequency amplification leads to distortion thereby resulting in poorer speech discrimination and understandability. The present study explains about the nonlinear frequency translation hearing aid show better speech performance compared to conventional hearing aids. There was a significant difference between speech recognition performances in the two hearing aid settings. A slight overall improvement can be noted for nonlinear frequency translation hearing aid than for conventional one.

The communication preferences among the deaf students using the mobile phones compared with the normal students & to identify the enhancement of communication ability by using SMS(SHORT MESSAGE SERVICE)in literate deaf students. The present study made an attempt to find out the effect of spectral variations on perception of speech in young normal hearing adults. The study showed that the spectral information between 1500 Hz and 2100 Hz are important for perception of speech in Telugu & was no difference found in lower cut off is important in perception of speech in Telugu compared to English language.The speech identification scores improved with increase in low-pass cut off frequencies and with decrease in high-pass cut off frequencies.
