A comparative study of hydrolysis of PET waste and other plastic waste ( compact disc. Polyethelene, polystyrene) has been carried out under various reaction conditions. PET was hydrolyzed with sodium hydroxide in different solvents at reflux as well as by fusion in solventless conditions at atmospheric pressure. Best results were obtained when PET chips were heated to dryness with sodium hydroxide in minimum amount of water. A 98% yield of terephthalic acid was obtained in ten minutes. Hydrolysis with aqueous ammonia was not promising. Acid hydrolysis with nitric acid also...

WASA Lab. is responsible to monitor quality of drinking water. Results reports are arranged in form of monthly reports. About 82% samples were found safe for drinking purpose and 18% samples were bacterial contaminated in 2009. Sampling was done from locations where water samples were found bacterial contaminated under follow up sampling programme. Among 18% unsafe samples 2% samples were unsafe on the basis of physical tests reports and 16% on bacterial tests report. To remove contamination flushing of pipelines and chlorination was done by operation staff. Private samples are also received...

In 2010, three thousand one hundred and thirty two water samples were collected from different areas of Lahore (Pakistan). These samples were analyzed in WASA Laboratory to know about quality of drinking water. About 94% samples were found safe for drinking purpose and 6% samples were bacterially contaminated. Under follow up sampling programme, sampling was done from locations where water samples were found bacterial contaminated. In 2010 74% water samples were collected under routine sampling, 18% samples were collected against complaint received about quality of drinking water ...

Presence of arsenic higher than permissible limit is a hot issue in the world in these days. Unfortunately Pakistan is also facing this crisis and arsenic is reported higher than WHO guideline and Standards. From previous studies we came to know a bitter fact that we have arsenic in drinking water with higher value than permissible limit. So a comprehensive study is made by using ICP-OES 1200 technique which is more reliable as compare to other techniques. According to present study 14 sources are found with arsenic value higher than permissible limit with maximum value of 166.9ppb. ICP is a...
