Building on the 2001 Waterborne Transportation Study, which summarized the results of Gateway's Phase I ferry-expansion effort, this report analyses several ferry landing sights in terms of their potential for expansion. The report looks at waterside and landside access strategies, implementation feasibility, and financial feasibility for each site. The report concludes with action items for each location considered, and calls for increasing market analysis, monitoring operator costs, and continuing to coordinate with stakeholders.

In his 2003 State of the Union address, President Bush announced a $1.2 billion Hydrogen Fuel Initiative to reduce America's growing dependence on foreign oil. If successful, the initiative could also reduce environmental pollutants and lessen the greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming. There has been a great deal of activity, not only in the U.S., but throughout the world. Consortia composed of policymakers, safety regulators and inspectors, engineers, scientists, universities, and private industry are focusing on long-term research to understand the implications of a...

The Intermodal Control System (ICS) was designed by General Railway Signal Corporation (GRS, now Alstom, Inc.) for highway-rail at-grade crossings, under contract to the New York State Department of Transportation. In partnership with the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), a site was selected for testing the ICS at the New Hyde Park station, where a grade crossing occurs close to the station. The planned project integrates train control, grade crossing control, and traffic control into a balanced system that can make decisions affecting both train speed and highway closure.
