The main subject of the Workshop was the new developments about the cost effective treatment techniques for better removal efftciencies and dis- cussion of policies for pollution control. Although effluent water quality requirements differ from one country to another, their application will be an efficient mean for water pollution control. Specific promotion should be provided for polluters to meet the effluent water quality requirements. Results of pilot scale studies demonstrate the applicability of and ad- vantages of sequenching batch reactor technology for pretreatment of in- dustrial...

This monograph systematically develops and considers the so-called "dressing method" for solving differential equations (both linear and nonlinear), a means to generate new non-trivial solutions for a given equation from the (perhaps trivial) solution of the same or related equation. Throughout, the text exploits the "linear experience" of presentation, with special attention given to the algebraic aspects of the main mathematical constructions and to practical rules of obtaining new solutions.

This book contains the proceedings of a meeting that brought together friends and colleagues of Guy Rideau at the Universite Denis Diderot (Paris, France) in January 1995. It contains original results as well as review papers covering important domains of mathematical physics, such as modern statistical mechanics, field theory, and quantum groups. The emphasis is on geometrical approaches. Several papers are devoted to the study of symmetry groups, including applications to nonlinear differential equations, and deformation of structures, in particular deformation-quantization and...

The Conference "Perspectives in Analysis" was held during May 26-28, 2003 at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. The purpose of the conference was to consider the future of analysis along with its relations to other areas of mathematics and physics, and to celebrate the seventy-?fth birthday of Lennart Carleson. The scienti?c theme was one with which the name of Lennart Carleson has been associated for over ?fty years. His modus operandi has long been to carry out a twofold approach to the selection of research problems. First one should look for promising new areas of...

Systems with competing energy scales are widespread and exhibit rich and subtle behaviour, although their systematic study is a relatively recent activity. This text presents lectures given at a NATO Advanced Study Institute reviewing the current knowledge and understanding of the subject, particularly with regard to phase transitions and dynamics, at an advanced tutorial level.

In the past decade, there has been a sudden and vigorous development in a number of research areas in mathematics and mathematical physics, such as theory of operator algebras, knot theory, theory of manifolds, infinite dimensional Lie algebras and quantum groups (as a new topics), etc. on the side of mathematics, quantum field theory and statistical mechanics on the side of mathematical physics. The new development is characterized by very strong relations and interactions between different research areas which were hitherto considered as remotely related. Focussing on these new developments...

This volume presents a unified theory of shock waves corresponding to gravitational and electromagnetic fields and to magnetohydrodynamics in the context of general relativity. The common tool employed is provided by tensor distribution -- an approach which has been systematically developed by the author since 1962. One remarkable result is that this yields a complete theory of magnetohydrodynamic shock waves, which can also be applied to the treatment of pulsars. The same method is also applicable to the quantization of some physical fields in curved space-time. This, too, is discussed in...

This volume contains the proceedings of the First Ukrainian-French- Romanian School "Algebraic and Geometric Methods in Mathematical Physics", held in Kaciveli, Crimea (Ukraine) from 1 September ti1114 September 1993. The School was organized by the generous support of the Ministry of Research and Space of France (MRE), the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (ANU), the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the State Committee for Science and Technologies of Ukraine (GKNT). Members of the International Scientific Committee were: J.-M. Bony (paris), A. Boutet de Monvel-Berthier...

These two volumes constitute the Proceedings of the Conference Moshe Flato, 1999'. Their spectrum is wide but the various areas covered are, in fact, strongly interwoven by a common denominator, the unique personality and creativity of the scientist in whose honor the Conference was held, and the far-reaching vision that underlies his scientific activity. With these two volumes, the reader will be able to take stock of the present state of the art in a number of subjects at the frontier of current research in mathematics, mathematical physics, and physics. Volume I is prefaced by...
