This monograph concerns the design of feedback controllers for multivariable linear dynamic systems. The particular approach is to consider a coprime factor description of the plant's transfer function and to represent a family of systems by perturbing the numerator and denominator. The design of controllers to robustly stabilize such a family is posed as an H? optimization problem and some explicit solutions are obtained. Similarly, procedures for reduced order modelling and controller design are derived. Finally, the results are exploited to give a systematic loop shaping control system...

The scope of this volume is to provide a forum dedicated to Experimental Robotics. The focus is on theoretical work which has been validated through experimental implementation. The papers are research papers pre- senting new results which reflect the conjecture-experimental cycle that researchers have gone through.

From the foreword: "This volume contains most of the 113 papers presented during the Eighth International Conference on Analysis and Optimization of Systems organized by the Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique. Papers were presented by speakers coming from 21 different countries. These papers deal with both theoretical and practical aspects of Analysis and Optimization of Systems. Most of the topics of System Theory have been covered and five invited speakers of international reputation have presented the new trends of the field."

These notes are an introduction to implicit models of linear dynamical systems, with applications to modelling, control system design, and identification, intended for control-system engineers at the beginning graduate level. Because they are non-oriented, the models are particularly useful where causality is unknown or may change. They are implicit in all variables and closed under the algebraic operations, and hence are useful for computer-aided analysis and design. They possess the vector-matrix conceptual simplicity and computational feasibility of state-space equations, together with the...

This book discusses inverse problems that arise in the estimation and control of distributed parameter systems in the face of uncertainty, as well as applications of these techniques to mathematical modelling for problems of applied system analysis (eg environmental issues, technological issues, technological processes, biomethematical models, mathematical economy and other fields). The main topics of the research papers which comprise this book are: estimation of the state and of the parameters for distributed parameter systems, control problems with state constraints, exponential...

This collection of articles indicates that there is a strong new boom of interest in the area of dynamic games. The papers included in this volume are designed to serve as a source of problem formulations and references for established researchers as well as for new researchers who are entering this field. In these proceedings, the papers have been grouped into four sections dealing with zero-sum differential games of pursuit evasion type and their application to aerospace problems, search and discrete games, robust controller design and numerical and hierarchical methods.

This book contains a collection of survey papers in the areas of modelling, estimation and adaptive control of stochastic systems describing recent efforts to develop a systematic and elegant theory of identification and adaptive control. It is meant to provide a fast introduction to some of the recent achievements. The book is intended for graduate students and researchers interested in statistical problems of control in general. Students in robotics and communication will also find it valuable. Readers are expected to be familiar with the fundamentals of probability theory and stochastic...

Research in the area of adaptive control, nonlinear system and other advanced control techniques have been carried out in parallel and rather independently. In the last few years, these techniques have been used to improve robot motion accuracy. The aim of the workshop is to present the most recent contributions in the field of robot control and to compare how these advanced control techniques have been used to solve similar problems. The topics covered include: Adaptation and learning.- Control of systems with nonholonomic constraints (mobile robots).- Robot control in the task...

Some algebraic, combinatorial and algebraic-differential me- thods have beenused in recent years in order to solve many problems in control theory, by effective algorithms. Imple- mentation of these algorithms generally involves algebraic computation systems and tools. Software realizations are al- ready developed in an increasing number of research centres. The goal of the "First European Conference on Algebraic Com- puting in Control" has been to present the main actual me- thods for analysis and control of systems which naturally lead to the use of algebraic computing. The maintopics and...
