This book, which has been adopted as a set text for a number of training and diploma courses, is long established as a comprehensive source book for both students and practitioners in the field. For this edition the book has been updated both in response to new teacher training needs and to take account of the rapid developments in research and ideas on dyslexia which have occurred in recent years.

The surviving Anglo-Saxon Kalendars are not only valuable evidence for the cults of particular saints; they also help to date and localise the manuscripts in which they are found, providing important information for the palaeographer and cultural historian. This volume collates the texts of twenty-seven such kalendars, written or owned in England before 1100, into monthly tables to allow easy comparison of which saints are included and to give a sense of how rare a particular feast was. The text is a translation done into English for use in the Brigittine monastery of Syon by the priest Richard Whitford fl. 1495-1555?], the "wretche of Syon," as he often signed himself, a well known translator and compiler of devotional texts in the vernacular. A monastic ritual intended for use in the Benedictine monastery of St Mary and St Egwin, Evesham, Worcestershire, edited from Oxford, Bodleian Library, Barlow MS 7 SC 6419]. Although similar to other surviving manuscripts that have benn labelled as pontificals, this MS contains no episcopal offices, all rites being appropriate for celebration by the abbot or his delegate. It was probably written c. 1300, for John de Brokehampton, abbot 1282-1316, although the first two sections appear to be copied from earlier compilations.

Rhygyfarch himself was a teacher in the school of St Davids, actually sited at Llanbadarn Fawr, The so-called Ricemarsh Psalter including the martyology], housed as Dublin, Trinity College MS 50, is dated by the editor to c. 1076-1081. Third of 6 volumes. The project to edit the Hyde Breviary was a considerable one that was to occupy the HBS for a deczde. Hyde Abbey hadbeen founded alongside New Minster, Winchester un 965 by St Ethelwold c. 908-984], Bishop if Winchester, and a former Abbot of Abingdon, with Abingdon Monks. In 1110 the community moved from its cramped premises to Hyde Meadow, just outside the city walls. There is a misprint in the title, which should refer to Exeter MS 3518, a superior text of the Exeter Martyrology to Cambridge, Corpus Christi College, MS 93, which was employed earlier by Canon Dalton [see KerMM, II, p. 828]. The present volume gives a collation of variants against HBS [38] pp. 371-459, plus a discussion of these. The bulk of the present volume, pp. 44-255, consists of indexes, compiled by Christopher William Surrey.
