The utilisation of Medical Eligibility Criteria (MEC) in the provision of contraceptive methods is a critical component in ensuring the quality, safety, and accessibility of family planning services. This book presents findings from a KAP study examining the use of MEC among healthcare providers in Uganda. The research addresses an underexplored area, highlighting existing gaps in provider competency, attitudes, and adherence to MEC guidelines. The study offers evidence-based recommendations, emphasising the need for wider dissemination of MEC guidelines through user-friendly mobile applications to support provider compliance. It underscores the importance of comprehensive training, particularly in intrauterine device (IUD) insertion and removal, and advocates for expanded task-shifting strategies to increase the pool of qualified providers. In addition, it stresses the need to address misconceptions and improve attitudes towards MEC in order to promote more client-centred care. By tackling gaps in knowledge, attitudes, and practices, the study provides actionable insights to ensure sustainable and equitable access to contraceptive services for all women.
