The Stations of the Cross is Jesus' agonizing journey from judgment to crucifixion along the -Via Dolorosa; from the Tragedy of Good Friday to the Christian Miracle of Easter. The goal of this book is to combine a "there/then" with a "here/now" experience. "Stations" explores four aspects of the Via Crucis (Latin: Way of the Cross): 1. The 14 paintings by Norman Dolph - stark black pigment on raw canvas - depict each of the stations of suffering. They are based on the stations as they appear in Jerusalem today. They show Christ's inexorable progress to the pain of the cross on Golgotha and the glory of his resurrection. The paintings were originally exhibited in the 6th Biennale of Sacred Art at the Museo Stauros d'Arte Sacra Contemporanea (San Gabriele, Teramo Italy). 2. The 33 poems by Rev. Mary McAnally focus, meditate upon, and expand for our century, threads of meaning from ages old. Assertive 21st Century Poems that trace a path in a new "Holy Land" - a different land - your inner self. These messages use ancient concerns to relieve modern angst. Words with transformed meanings - poetic resonance yielding insight into the unimaginable process of Christ's journey, death and rebirth. A graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary, and Columbia University, Mary is an activist for peace, justice and women's issues. Widely published, her manuscripts have been collected and published in literary journals and anthologies and 5 chapbooks of her works. 3. The walk is described as though you were taking the path in Jerusalem yourself. To provide a scale and a reality of the experience, the route is overlaid on the path you would take up the hill from the UN building - to Grand Central Terminal, in New York City with the oppressive burden of a heavy cross. 4. Extensive biblical scholarship - Scriptural, historical and bibliographical - provides a depth and breadth to the Holy pilgrimage. Poetry, Art, Narrative, Scripture and Research - annealed into a radically new compound. Different readers will follow different threads through the book - but the destination is always the same. We see how guilt, confession, forgiveness and redemption transform into life's "Big Three" - HOPE - FAITH - LOVE. The Kindle edition comes with a full table of contents and an NCX Index for easy navigation.
