Embryo-toxic effects of lead nitrate of the African catfish with different modes of action were determined. Exposure of fertilized eggs to lead nitrate prolonged the incubation period and caused severe malformations. No specific response in the activities of the selected enzymes and no extremely DNA damaged was recorded in the pre-hatching stage exposed to the lead nitrate doses. The present work has been suggested to the rarity of taxonomic and biological information with respect to the commercially important Serranid fishes from the Red Sea at Hurghada, Egypt. In this work more advanced techniques and statistical methods were considered to answer a lot of important questions. The inter-specific variations between the selected Serranid species were evaluated in term of morphometric and meristic analysis, electrophoretic proteins patterns, number of isoenzymes, gene frequencies, genetic identity, genetic distance, heterozygozity and genotypes.
