In this picture book, children at school enjoy singing when their teacher, Nanny Hineari, plays an autoharp. But, one day, the harp goes missing. The children and Nanny go on adventures to search for the harp, but it seems lost. Only a fantail saw elves taking the harp from class, and it leads Nanny to the elves' glade where they are practising for a bush band competition. The elves' band sounds terrible, so Nanny gives fantail some music to take to them secretly. The elves win the competition and quietly return the harp. This is a collection of short stories for children and young adults about people and events of Ngati Kahungunu, an iwi or Maori tribe of Aotearoa New Zealand. The majority of the stories focus on key events in the life of Ngati Kahungunu chief Nukupewapewa. The other stories in the collection tell about Kahungunu himself, the battle with the wheke (octopus) across the Pacific to Aotearoa, and the dolphin kaitiaki (guardians).
