The city of São Paulo is the center of the largest urban agglomeration in Latin America and the Caribbean in both built and inhabited areas. This book unfolds the panorama of the universe of the heat island in São Paulo, based on an intra-urban geographic approach of the physical aspects that constitute the relations of energy exchanges at the surface - atmosphere interface. With this in mind, we conducted a literature review and used a large number of thermal images generated from the Landsat 5 satellite images, as well as vegetation index, land use and land cover data, and sophisticated meteorological parameters generated with the Surface Energy Balance Algorithm For Land Model, all edited and carried out on a Geographic Information System.

Dr. Hugo Barros holds a doctorate in physical geography from the University of São Paulo, Brazil. Dr. Magda Lombardo holds a doctorate in physical geography from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, as well as seven postdoctoral degrees from universities in Europe and the United States.
