The use of plants to cure human ailments is as old as mankind itself. Collection of medicinal plants from the wild raises concerns about the conservation of biodiversity as well as about the purity and efficacy of the collected material. Micropropagation of medicinal plants provides a means to circumvent these concerns. This book contains protocols for the micropropagation of four plants that are medicinally important - especially in India - Bacopa monneri, Centalla asiatca, Hemidesmus indicus and Rubia cordifolia. The effects of different factors, such as media plant growth regulators, culture vessel etc., on growth have been studied and analysed for these selected plants. This book would be particularly useful for both, students and plant tissue culture professionals because of its detailed nature. The book also contains an estimate of the number of plantlets that can be generated, from a single explant, for each of the medicinal plants.
