The present work was undertaken to investigate the effects of aqueous extract from Asphodelus fistulosus whole plant in experimentally induced hyperlipidemia in rats.The antihyperlipidemic effect of AFPE was evaluated in male albino rats of Wistar strain at two graded doses levels viz. 100 and 200 mg/kg of body weight in high fat diet and Triton X-100-induced hyperlipidemia in rats. AFPE (100 mg/kg, body weight & 200 mg/kg, body weight) was administered orally for 28 days in high fat diet and 7 days in Triton X-100 (100 mg/kg, i.p.) induced hyperlipidemia in rat. The efficacy of AFPE was compared to Standard Atorvastatin (30 mg/kg, p.o.) in high fat diet and Atorvastatin (10 mg/kg, p.o.) in Triton X-100-induced hyperlipidemia. Effect of AFPE on serum lipid profile like TC, TG, HDL-C, and LDL-C, weight gain and biochemical parameters like SGOT and SGPT were estimated.
