Harold Lindsell (1913-98) was an evangelical author and scholar. He taught at Columbia Bible College, Northern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Fuller Theological Seminary. He served as President of the Evangelical Theological Society in 1971, as well as editor of Christianity Today from 1968 to 1978. He authored more than twenty books, including The Battle for the Bible (1976).

The church of Jesus Christ needs to re-orient itself and to re-appraise and re-evaluate its functions, its methods and its usefulness. It must ask itself the question whether it has fulfilled its obligation in giving clear and unequivocal answers to the questions which have been forged in the fires of conflicting ideologies. But even before it has tried to do this, it must ask itself questions about its own nature and function in terms of its basic obligation to the world.
