The production of forgeries under the name of the Swiss physician Paracelsus (1493/94-1541) was an integral part of the diffusion of the Paracelsian movement in early modern Europe. Many of these texts were widely read and extremely influential. The studies presented in "Alchemy and Poetry" constitute an 'alchemical Parnassus' without parallel in the historiography of literature in the German language. This work documents for the first time a subset of early-modern points of intersection between natural history and poetry. Its position as a foundational work is assured by approx. thirty informative examples of early-modern poetic expressions of knowledge about the natural sciences.
