Arriving in the territory an ethnologist is tasked with studying the enigmatic Su'mok Indians. He finds his job borders on the impossible until he makes a startling discovery that causes him run for his life and the sake of his sanity. In the mines of Chaos, men struggle against the mind numbing labor and the insidious effects of unseen forces. Violence escalates including an enormous rise in suicides and officials fear that any chance they have to reap the benefits of their investments may be endangered. As a result a crack team of strike breakers from the famous Pinkerton Agency in Chicago are called in with disastrous results. All this culminates in the final meeting between the various combatants and the enigmatic Dark One, a battle that must be won to save the human race.
