"Why are you never afraid?" her sister asked her one night. "These are characters with really interesting lives " Kirsty explained. "But they are not real " shouted her sister. "They are as real as you want to believe that they are," she said in answer to her sister's protest.
Every time that her sister rebuked the existence of vampires, Kirsty would argue that they existed. They were very real to her and she knew, even at the age of nine, that vampires were a very forceful power and that they were more interesting than anything she had ever read about before.
