Stories of There and Then is a collection of short memoir pieces written by senior writers, all participants in a memoir writing class. The stories all belong to a specific place and time -Ireland in the first half of the 20th century-, and deal with themes of loss, courage, and the beauty of everyday life through memories of childhood.

Over one, two, three years, the authors of the stories in this book met in Dublin City University, in the Intergenerational Learning Programme. The programme's aim is to open the doors of the university to older people, either for the first time or for a second chance at learning something new. For the authors, it was a chance to start writing, or sometimes to rekindle their passion for writing. They discovered new voices, new friends, and new ways to share and discover stories.
