This book is a fully refereed set of chapters relating to completed research presented at the 5th GeoCart conference on cartography, to be held in Auckland, New Zealand on September 1st to 4th, 2010. As such, it is a representative, valuable and timely selection of the state-of-the-art in this study area, with contributions from leading researchers worldwide. The structure of the book incorporates sections on cartographic representation and applications, but also hopefully exploratory geovisualisation, spatial cognition and usability (depending on the nature of contributions).
