Die Entdeckung des menschlichen Korpers und seiner Rollen in Bildern Athens im 8. und 7. Jh. v. Chr. eroffnet uns einen zentralen Diskurshorizont dieser Gesellschaft. Eine Analyse der Bildthemen nimmt die wechselseitige Beeinflussung von Korperbild und sozialer Rolle in den Blick und kontextualisiert anschlieend die Korperbilder. Auf dieser Grundlage konnen die sich wandelnden Korper- und Rollenbilder zu einer Kulturgeschichte der fruhen Gesellschaft Athens verdichtet werden.

DECOR is the first series that deals with decorative phenomena defined in a comprehensive way. It will move away from analyses of single decorative elements in isolation and focus on their spatial-architectural and visual correlation. This serves as the starting point for a differentiated analysis of image- or decor-spaces. The geographical focus is on Italy, the chronological framework ranges from the 2nd century B.C. to the late 1st century A.D.

Studies on ancient urbanity either concerns individual buildings or the city as a whole. This volume, instead, addresses a meso-scale of urbanity: the socio-spatial organisation of ancient cities. Its temporal focus is on Late Republican and Imperial Italy, and more specifically the cities of Pompeii and Ostia. Referring to a praxeological and phenomenological perspective, it looks at neighbourhoods and city quarters as basic categories of design and experience. Although Antiquity itself has been intensively researched, together with its reception, to date this has largely happened in a compartmentalized fashion. This series presents for the first time an interdisciplinary contextualization of the productive acquisitions and transformations of the arts and sciences of Antiquity in the slow process of the European societies constructing a scientific system and their own cultural identity, a process which started in the Middle Ages and has continued up to the Modern Age.
