The structural poems in this book were selected from the author's chapbooks produced over the past thirty years. The "lattice" poem places phrases in a matrix that permits exploration of the relationship of any word to all other words in the poem. These pieces have a primary, secondary, and tertiary structure that is analogous to the infrastructure of a crystal and, like the molecules within a crystal, may vibrate in and out of focus. The poet works at the interface of the conscious and unconscious using the energies of the tension of opposites. The lattice provides the alchemical vessel within which these forces can mix and transform. As such, each is the seed of a lyrical poem that flowers independently and at some other time.
