Many of my fondest childhood memories were in Ketchican, Alaska, playing around the docks next to my father's Alaska Steamship office. The sights, sounds, and smells of those waterfront adventures have forever branded themselves deep into my soul. While underway from Ketchican to Seattle, I received a gift from an aging steamship Captain. A gift that took fifty years to unfold and finally reveal itself. When it did, my life made a dramatic change because of his simple gesture, that stormy Christmas night, so may years ago, so far out at sea.
