Kerry White was born in Toowoomba, Australia, in 1945 and spent his childhood at nearby Mount Tyson. He worked in a bank in Toowoomba after finishing school. In 1966-67 he served in the Vietnam War as a national serviceman. In his late 20s he embarked upon a journalism career, starting with The Chronicle in Toowoomba and subsequently became a media/communications professional in both private and public sector positions.
