During Harvey J. Gardner's 56-year career as a speech-language pathologist, he experienced the power of reading children's books with the many preschoolers referred to him for speech & language therapy. After graduating with B.A. and M. A. degrees from Brooklyn College, he attended Ohio State University where he earned his doctorate. He taught at Adelphi and Hofstra Universities and, for 43 years, was Director of the Huntington Hearing & Speech Center (Long Island, New York).
