Peter Marcuse, a planner and lawyer, is professor emeritus of urban planning at Columbia University. Among other publications, he is coeditor of Cities for People, Not for Profit: Critical Urban Theory and the Right to the City (2011) and author of Searching for the Just City (2011). He has taught in several countries and written extensively in both professional journals and the popular press. His fields of research include city planning, housing, the use of public space, rights to the city, globalization, and urban history, with a particular focus on New York City.
