Mike Macfarlane was raised in Julian, a small town in San Diego county, California. In the second weekend of his military training in Norfolk, Virginia, he met Mary Jo LoCascio. She was raised in the small town of Suffolk, Virginia, and had just begun her teaching career when Mike derailed it. Courting over blueberry pancakes, they were engaged in a month, and married six months later.
