The author started out his Federal Government career as a struggling US Border Patrol Agent in 1987. He worked is way up through the system in the Immigration and Naturalization Service, through 911, through the newly formed Department of Homeland Security, to finally retiring in 2012 as Deputy Assistant Director. He recieved his undergraduate degree from Kansas State University and his executive masters from Havard Business School. He is married with two children.
