Raised in western and central Massachusetts, Ann Hall grew up playing in the woods that surrounded her childhood homes. After graduating from Smith College with a degree in biology, she moved to Boston to take up a career in finance, but after several years immigrated to England. She attended the University of Sheffield and began working in communications, remaining in Yorkshire for five years before returning to the United States.
