Val Buss was born in 1952, the daughter of strawberry farmers in South East England. She spent a lot of her childhood playing happily alone in imaginary worlds out in the fields while her mother worked on the farm. However, she eventually grew up, married and had a family. Only in her late 50s did she take up writing fiction concurrently with becoming an academic scientist with the help of a Daphne Jackson Fellowship. Her first book, The Silver Spindle, was launched in Amazon Kindle format in February 2013.
