YAHUDIT: A NOVEL is a coming-of-age story of Yahudit Kashiri, a seventeen-year-old modern orthodox Jew of Iranian descent living in Los Angeles. Yahudit, whose parents met at Stanford, try to provide a Jewish-centric identity for Yahudit, but she rebels. Yahudit begins to see the rifts in the family as she comes of age and realizes that the hardworking Hollywood boss father and a good Yiddish mama that her mother portrays herself out to be are not exactly what they seem. Yahudit meets a Mexican, named Carlos, who works at the kosher fast food place near her Hebrew Sunday school, and become romantically involved with him, much to the dismay of her Hebrew school friends. Yahudit elopes with Carlos in a journey of love, sexual pleasure, self-discovery, and enlightenment.
