It investigates the problems of translating polysemous words with scientific hints in the Qurân in four English translations which are analyzed diachronically to detect any development in the translation of these ambiguous words, and to identify the most effective translation strategies that should be adopted to render them successfully. Outlining the history and controversy of scientific exegesis, the book discusses the concepts of "wujûh Al-Qurân" as well as polysemy in Arabic and English and their implications for Qurân exegesis and translation. It discusses the concepts of equivalence, approximation, translation loss and compensation in light of Christiane Nords Functional Approach which is applied to analyze some verses that talk about scientific phenomena related to astronomy, physics, chemistry, geography, geology, oceanography, embryology and physiology.
