"My name is C. A. I am 15 years old. I have two sisters. I don't go to school. Our parents stayed in the village. We live in town with an aunt who doesn't give us food very often. I am forced to sleep with men in order to pay for food for me and my sisters." This account reflects that the lack of stability in the family environment, illiteracy, and the low resources of the households to which underage girls who are taken care of by the NGO Communauté Abel belong, influence their sexual behavior. These girls engage in risky sex and receive compensation in cash, kind or services. The practice of survival sex by these underage girls appears to be a life strategy whose primary goal is to counter the effects of deprivation experienced in the family environment. In this book, which is a synthesis of a sociological survey based on a sample of 200 underage girls who practice survival sex, the author highlights the multiple vulnerabilities of these girls who are often victims of violence.
