The poems in this collection are disconnected and that is no mistake as it was the intention of the poet who was living in the North West of Ireland when he wrote the majority of these poems. This was during the time when the economy was turning bad and there was a sense among those in the region that the people had departed from their traditional values and had brought it all on themselves. As the young departed the region for Dublin and other shores this sense of loss became more felt and turned to alienation.
