Leandro "Sal" O Salinas, 72 of Beaufort, Husband of Margaret stinger Salinas, died Friday, april 2, 2004, at his home. Born October 23, 1931 in Harlingen, Texas, son of Antonio and Isabel Trevino Salinas. He inlisted into the Amry on August 12 1950. Encountered his fist wounded missing in action on September 25, 1950, just 43 days after inlistment. He retired a chief warrant officer after serving his country for more than 22 years. Among the many awards during service included the combat Infantry Badge, multiple Purple Hearts, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 devices, Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal and others. After he retired from the Army, he worked as a deputy sheriff and many levels of law enforcement. He is an accomplished poet and member of teh National Poets Society, recieving many awards including the "National Poets Award."
