When confronted with the task of fulfilling a high school graduation requirement in the form of a semester-long project, most people don't jump up and say, "I want to write about prostitutes."
I, however, was not 'most people.' At first, my project idea was simple enough: I wanted to write a book. Period. End of story. I didn't want to write just ANY book, however...and I especially didn't want to write what I like to call "another crappy teenage novel." With that in mind, I set my sights on writing a love story (because for whatever ridiculous reason, I like romance).
How does one approach writing a love story while avoiding the pitfall of obnoxious teenage angst? Easy - make it provocative. Edgy. Dark...and set the novel in a brothel.
I'm not sure if I should label this novel a great feat of mine, but I did know, however, that when my efforts caught the attention of a teacher, principal, and superintendent, I would have a great story to tell.
Is this the one? You tell me.
