An introduction to Sikhism through its rich artistic culture. Using an assortment of rare imagery and literature, the text explores the fruitful world of the Sikhs. Essays by art curators, historians and collectors, and religion and literary scholars are illustrated with some of the earliest and finest Sikh paintings, the commonly overlooked Janam Sakhi genre, and recent works of rising stars in contemporary Sikh art. Many illustrations are reproducd and there are excerpts from journals of visitors to the court of the dimunutive and new translations of early-20th-century poetry.
