The story of the Roma" is a special one. They are a people without a country, originally from India. They settled mainly in the Balkans centuries ago, then in the countries of Central Europe. More recently, they have also come to Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands and elsewhere, in search of better living conditions. But are there other reasons for their migration? Are they discriminated against? Their way of life and their spirit of independence seem to disturb the non-Roma population, the "Gadjés". There are some 15-20 million of them, scattered across Europe, with large concentrations in countries such as Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Ukraine... To find out more about their personal history and that of their children, we met with them and asked them to tell us their stories. We also drew up a questionnaire for them, as well as an assessment to highlight the children's learning difficulties. We were able to find out more about the reasons for their migration, their way of life, their traditions, their culture, but also to understand their fears.
