My book is about a Richmond, Virginia native and an avid NASCAR fan and it chronicles the history of NASCAR Racing from 1958 through 2010. It primarily focuses on the NASCAR Sprint Cup racing that took place at Martinsville Speedway, Richmond International Raceway, Daytona International Raceway, Bristol Motor Speedway, Darlington Raceway, Charlotte Motor Speedway, and Talladega Super Speedway. It starts out with the main character, Peter Gates as a twenty-nine year old Master Sergeant in the US Army serving in Vietnam from June 1966, to the summer of 1967. Then it continues with Peter Gates following the legend and the King of NASCAR Richard Petty from 1968 to his final win in the 1984 Firecracker 400 in Daytona. He also follows Petty's career and the career of Speedy Thompson through flashbacks form 1958 to 1960. Then following Richard Petty, the story continues with Peter following the late Dale Earnhardt from his rookie year in 1979 to his death in the 2001 Daytona 500. Lastly, the story concludes with Peter as a fan of Jimmie Johnson from 2003 to Peter's death after Johnson wins the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2010.
