This book may also engage fine art artists and illustrators as well as those who simply loves horses and equine art, and want to pay tribute to Old West pioneer-illustrators and to open new ones who continued this exciting theme, depicting New West. The scope of roughly 100 stunning illustrations, portrayed relationships between people and horses, and statements from experts, cover more than the 120-year period of Western theme life and existence in illustration. Based on a well-researched material during the studies in Europe and America universities, and following research, this book focuses on illustrators, portrayed the Western theme in books, magazines and gallery pieces, which reflect relationships between humans and horses in varying aspects and situations through the American history. In the first chapter, I will examine the place of horses in human history and the background of using equestrian figure in Art. In the second and third chapters I shall present and analyze relationships between people (e.g., warriors, Native Indians, cowboys, settlers, farmers) and their horses in old and present day West as seen in Western theme illustrations. I will conclude with a presentation of the contemporary illustrators' views on use of horses in their works. More than one hundred contemporary illustrators and eighty art directors were sent questionnaires regarding their philosophies and working methods. The results of the questionnaire have been correlated with the responses to interviews and will be presented in the fourth and fifth chapters. The final accord or conclusion shall be made in the fourth chapter. Horses & Personages: As Seen in Children's Books (Volume 2) is the second book in series People & Horses: Illustration. Book 2 is about using horses in relationships with a variety personages in Children's Books illustration. This book is also based on well-researched material for the author master-thesis in Syracuse University and her following research obtained for teaching Art history and world-wide culture and arts in art schools, colleges and university level courses. This book focus is on children's books illustrators and their works, reflected relationships between personages and horses in stories, tales, and legends during more than 100 years (1877-1999).
