The recent trends and popularity in implant dentistry have undermined the concept of complete dentures among the budding dental surgeons. A well fitting and retentive complete denture indulges a well fitting tissue surface, a peripheral border compatible with muscle and tissues. Posterior palatal seals prevent the ingress of air which might unseat the denture when the distal border is displaced downward.Complete dentures have been used extensively for the rehabilitation of edentulous patients. Success of these restorations depends on retention, support, and stability. Inevitable process of alveolar bone resorption may result in loss of retention, resulting in soreness, loss of vertical dimension of occlusion, and poor function. The posterior palatal seal is probably the most important area for retention and must be carefully considered during and after the reline procedures of a maxillary denture.
