Organic agriculture is based on the conservation of natural resources and the improvement of product quality, seeking the economic production of food without toxic residues. This production system, in addition to not harming the environment, generates products that are more valued in the market because they are superior quality foods. In view of the above, the objective of this work was to gather information contained in the national and international literature on organic production in family farming. Brazil occupies the fifth position in the world in terms of organic agricultural area, with approximately 750,000 ha of planted land and most of the Brazilian organic production, approximately 80%, comes from family farming. It is possible to observe the difficulties faced in the production and commercialisation of organic products in Brazil, which is mostly carried out by small producers "family farming", which is related to the lack of investments and incentives from the government for production to expand, unlike what happens in North American and European countries.
