This book brings together the knowledge from and tools for genetic and genomic research into oomycetes to help solve the problems this pathogen poses to crops and animals. Armed with the information presented here, researchers can use oomycete data to solve practical problems and gain insight into future areas of interest. Key Features:

  • Offers an up-to-date coverage of research into oomycetes - which has advanced with biochemical and molecular analyses in recent years
  • Helps researchers use oomycete data to solve practical problems, like damage to crop and animal resources
  • Includes a section on interactions with animal hosts
  • Offers perspective on future areas of research
  • Assembles an international author base

"The whole is extremely well–produced, and I especially liked the tipped–in signature of colour plates on coated paper comprising colour versions of eight half–tone figures from various chapters. It also seems as well up–to–date as can be expected in such multiauthored works, with many papers from 2008 being cited. And the price is reasonable by current standards for a book of this quality. The editors are to be congratulated on marshalling such a work, which clearly merits wide circulation amongst the broader mycological community." ( IMA Fungus, December 2010)

INDEX.

Kurt Lamour is an Associate Professor in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology at the University of Tennessee. He is Associate Editor of the journal Phytopathology and author of over twenty peer–reviewed publications.

Sophien Kamoun is a Senior Scientist at The Sainsbury Laboratory, Norwich, United Kingdom. He is a Monitoring Editor of Plant Physiology, Editor in Chief of IS–MPMI Reporter, and author of over ninety peer–reviewed publications.

THE MOST UP–TO–DATE COVERAGE OF OOMYCETE GENETICS AND GENOMICS

Oomycetes are evolutionarily distinct fungal–like organisms that attack a wide variety of plants and animals, causing billions of dollars of loss each year. Oomycetes have been studied intensely since destroying the Irish potato crop in the mid–1800s and due to their unique biology have proved very difficult to manage. This book provides the first comprehensive treatment of genetics and genomics for this important group.

With contributions from a panel of international experts, the book offers coverage of the most recent developments in the field, perspectives on future areas of research, and a special section on oomycete interactions with animal hosts.

Oomycete Genetics and Genomics is an indispensable resource for researchers interested in drug and vaccine development, crop science, aquaculture, microbiology, ecology, plant sciences, and agricultural and environmental biology.
