I believe it is the stories we have about ourselves and each other that impacts and propels our choices in relationships on both the micro and macrocosmic levels. From our childhood to marriages, to our children, to the homeless person we pass on the street, to the lady we accidentally bump into at the store, to the places we have the deepest connections and most sensitive vulnerabilities. Our thoughts and feelings that formed the stories we have written about those experiences in turn influence how we respond and/or react in our everyday lives. Perhaps the most important layer, is the story I have about myself that formed from one or more experiences. I spend a lot of time thinking about what "makes me tick," so to speak, both on the conscious and unconscious level and all of that "which makes me tick" directly impacts and influences the every day choices from the mundane to the seemingly more profound. So as I create, all of this is interplaying in my mind, my heart, my body, and is then portrayed through the images and/or conveyed through poetic language.
